Managing macOS Screen Recording Permissions

Some apps and websites can access and record the screen and audio on your Mac. You can decide which apps and websites are allowed to record your screen and audio.

When you share your screen in Google Chrome or Zoom for the first time, you will receive a prompt like this:

Click on Open System Settings and slide the toggle to the right of the app name to enable screen recording for that app. Once you allow screen recording for that app, you will need to quit and re-open the app for screen recording to work.

You can also add the apps prior to your meeting by following the instructions below.

  1. Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Privacy & Security in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)

  2. Click Screen & System Audio Recording.

  3. To add an app to a list, click + below the list, then navigate to the app you want to add.

If you allow third-party apps or websites to record your screen and audio, any information they collect is governed by their terms and privacy policies. It’s recommended that you learn about the privacy practices of those parties.
